A Little History
The Bakehouse Story
According to historical research by local archivist Irene Anderson, census records show that by 1841 the village had grown significantly, with three people explicitly recorded as working in the Garvald bakehouse to supply the village and outlying farms. The original oven doors operational throughout the 19th century were uncovered during 2007 renovation and remounted in what’s believed to be their original position.
"The original oven doors, uncovered during our 2007 renovation, still stand today as a feature of the cottage."
